39. Autumn turns to Winter in Copper Basin. 221/2 X 40 / 4 X 40 IN. Castle Rock & Porphyry Peak looking E from above The East Fork of the Big Lost River. Wednesday September 28 1994. after 3 attempts get the structure of the drawing in place. lst October. drawing until 4 then paint a stormy sky in the gathering gloom. a cold night. 2nd October. painting all day in a howling cold wind. clouds gather & ice forms on my paintbrush & freezes the paint, AV & MM arrive. a convivial supper. snow falling & blizzard winds. 3rd October. mix gin with paintwater to prevent it freezing. work until mid afternoon, a bitter wind & snow force me out, October 7th. the day warms & the snowline moves to above 000 ft. finish the painting at 6:00 - the last day of 3 months painting the Idaho Rockies.
