· From Cougar Bar looking downriver due W · 21 June 2002 pm · arriving at campsite late I scramble around the steep hillside searching fruitlessly for a painting site · finally start work next to the rocket box · 22 June · 10.30am · JK watches a flock of seven bighorn sheep and two lambs · a cougar stalks them on the hillside and finally leaps at a lamb · misses · the flock takes off along the river · the cougar retreats sulkily up a dry canyon ·
