1 March 2001 · with FS·AV·BV · hiking up a steep path we see a whiteface monkey picking daintily at green shoots · it sees us and jumps into dense foliage shrieking and shaking branches · overcome by curiosity it falls silent and peers at us cautiously/ fixedly through leaves · March 2 · at dusk fireflies fly with one bright light · as they land they switch to two green lights · March 3 · a bright green 6' vine snake visits our camp · it seems unafraid and lies on a rock absolutely still, head erect, as we approach to take photographs · March 4 · as I paint a brocket deer emerges from the forest to sip at a still pool ·
