'24 feb 1991.from Horquetas 4 hours on horseback & ford 2 rivers & 2 hours walking through primary forest to Rara Avis. find painting site. start work.. 25 Feb. rains have swollen the waterfall. spray fills the gorge. working all day under an umbrella sheltering from sudden soaking storms. after dark painted skull of a brocket deer by lamplight. 26 Feb. rain all day. shelter painting whilst I get wet. 27 Feb. my boulder seat becomes an island. intermittent rain until 5 when a downpour washes sections of the painting off the paper. 28 Feb. a 6 hour walk in pouring rain. arrive Horquetas covered in orange mud.'
