Pacific Northwest - Tahomer / Mt Rainier looking WSW from Goat Peak · Friday 19th July 1996 · with BB · carrying heavy packs we climb a nicely graded trail 2600' to American Ridge, search for water but find none · descend 1000' to a stream and fill containers and back up to 5700' · make camp · a perfect junco's nest lined with moss and fine grass containing 4 eggs lies hidden under vegetation · 20 July · walk NE and climb to Goat Peak 6473' · find a good view except Rainier is entirely hidden in cloud · draw everything except the volcano · still invisible at dusk · 21st July · painting all day · Rainier still lost in low cloud · 22nd July · at last we see the volcano - fortunately in the right place · draw and paint Rainier and the cirrus-streaked sky · 24th July · pack and leave ·
