Cerro Pabellõn looking south from Laguna Colorada · With HG·JG·PM·MS·BV · Saturday 20th April 1997 · Hidalgo is keen to show me Laguna Colorada · I gaze at the green clumps of spiny grass · crimson water · white salt pans · yellow shoreline · orange volcano · cerulian and French ultramarine sky and say "me desculpe, pero no ay sufficiente color por una pintura!" · 24th April · a cold morning · 8°F · pack up frosted tents · drive across wide gravel plains and sand deserts back to Laguna Colorada · make camp and start work · at first the colour is flat but at 5 it begins to reverberate in the evening light · paint until dark · 25th April · at dawn pink flamingos hoover the Laguna · shrieking terns mob me as I work until mid-morning.
